Albert L. ÒBuddyÓ Luce Jr. Heart Institute
In September 2005, The Medical Center broke ground on the Albert L. ÒBuddyÓ Luce Heart
Institute, to be located at the corner of First and Hemlock streets in downtown Macon. The institute is named for Albert L. ÒBuddyÓ
Luce, retired Blue Bird Corporation president and CEO, and former Georgia Heart Center patient. Only weeks after his stay and treatment at the Georgia Heat Center, Mr. Luce contributed to MedcenÕs ÒChallenge Your HeartÓ campaign to raise funds for the newly-consolidated heart facility. In addition to LuceÕs generous donation, the Peyton E. Anderson Foundation made a significant contribution to the Chest Pain Center, which will be housed in the Luce Heart Institute. The Luce Heart Institute is projected to open in the fall of 2007 and will house all outpatient and diagnostic cardiac and vascular services under one roof. Inpatient services will remain in the main hospital, adjacent to the new building for convenient access. The institute will feature 13 procedure labs, sixty 23-hour-stay beds, 42 recovery rooms, and 10 diagnostic testing rooms for ultrasound echo testing, EKG treadmill stress testing, and other procedures.
