Nu-Way Weiners operates nearly a dozen fast-food stands in Central Georgia. Its menu offers such feel-good fare as slaw dogs, Mega-Burgers, chili fries — and even a bowl of pickles. They also serve up their signature grilled hot dogs with with or without the secret recipe chili sauce. James Mallis, a Greek immigrant from New York, opened the first Nu-Way in 1916. (The misspelling of “wiener” appeared on early signage and has remained a part of the chain’s lore.) Jim Cacavias and his cousin Spyros Dermatas bought the business from their uncles in 1999, becoming the third generation to run the family business.
