Gray, the county seat, has a population of approximately 2000 residents. It is a blend of the old with the new, and is home to one of Georgia's most beautiful courthouses built in 1905. The Courthouse is located in the center of Gray near the Jones County Civic Center, which houses the Chamber of Commerce and the Development Authority as well as the Keep Jones Beautiful office. The Civic Center, formerly the Jones County High School facility constructed in 1936, was renovated by the Jones County Commission and completed during 2001.
Golf, fishing and hunting are major hobbies of the citizens. With one-fourth of the county being in wildlife refuges, nature based activities are a big recreational activity. And, of course, Old Clinton Historic District, Jarrell Plantation, and Griswoldville Battlefield provide a step into the past for history buffs. During the summer, little league activities take up a major portion of the young folks' time, as well as that of their parents.
Jones County is a growing small town that is fighting to keep the qualities and friendliness of our small town and its heritage while working towards meeting the challenges of the future.
